S.O.S.

Summer Of Seals

500m swim
max push ups
max sit ups
max pull ups
1.5mile run

its a Navy Seal challenge

After training all summer for this, 4 workouts a week plus Saturdays the entire circuit, we finally did it!
Here's my awesome team!
Me, Abby, Cheryl, Camille, and Brittany
Each member gets points depending how fast they complete the swim and run, how many "ups" they can do in 2 min, how many weeks you put in 4- 30minute workouts, and how much weight you lost.
After saying "no" to joining at least 3 times I finally consented and I'm glad I did.
I left as soon as I was done to catch my kids soccer games but as a bonus Daniel called me from the awards ceremony to let me know that I won 2nd place in my age group!
Hooray for "non-athletes" earning medals! :)
Here's my scores:
12:30 swim
25 push ups
50 sit ups
1 pull up
14:45 run
lost 8lbs
Oh ya and the real athletes...
Mark and Daniel tied for 1st overall, 1st in their age group and their team won 1st as well:)

So proud of my lil' athletes!
12 more games (x2) to go:)
Go Team Italy!
Go Team Holland!

The Conquering Heros

Sent 2 of my 3 babies to school today.
1st grade and Kindergarten
They were ecstatic.
I was melancoly.
No tears...its a personal feat of mine.
I'm happy that they're together, sad that they're not with me:)

Now I know all too well that the growing up will happen all too fast
and the real kicker is that there's not a thing I can do about it.
Better just embrace our new phase in life.
I'm game.

Unfamiliar Road

Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave will is stringing us along
Just know you're not alone
Cause I'm gonna make this place your home.

-Home by Phillip Phillips

I'm kinda obsessed with that song...post-Olympic-obsessed

This summer we made a huge change. Daniel switched careers. After 5 years of teaching high school chemistry and coaching cross country and track it was time to say goodbye.

We prayed and prayed and fasted and went to the temple to ask the Lord how we could make ends meet. Then Daniel got an offer as a safety manager just outside of Houston. We feel blessed to have been able to make such a smooth transition and we know that it's part of the Lord's plan for us but it certainly wasn't without some sorrow and sense of loss.

My husband is such a talented teacher and coach. Its his passion and I know he could've been happy doing it the rest of his life if only he didn't have to support a family too:) So, although I was dead set on him staying in education it kinda makes me love him all the more for making the sacrifice for us.

Goodbye lesson plans, meets, banquets, cards and speeches from students that make me tear up, holidays and summer road trips.

Hello 2 week vacations, 90 minute commutes, free weekends, and being able to continue to stay home with my babies.

This is what the hubs used to wear to work...

and now he'll be sport'n these
(the steal-toe boots, not the diaper)
His first day of work was last Monday.
He bought a new pair of jeans for the occasion. I told him not to dress up too nice considering he's working in a pipe yard. I didn't want the cowboy guys at work calling him "pretty boy".
Apparently Kolby was eavesdropping. Here's the card he left for dad that night...

"How was work handsome lover boy. Did you like it or not? Country music"

Here's to our next big adventure!

Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons

They fill you with fear

The trouble it might drag you down

If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home

1st try at a tri

Whilst I was kick'n it at the beach, my hubby signed Kolby up for his first triathlon on Friday night and competed the next morning...pretty gusty I'd say:)
Special shout out to uncle Mark for these saaaaweeeet photos! Way to document for the absent mother.

Swim

ooh man can't you just the butterflies?
having never practiced, been on a swim team or even enrolled in swim lessons it was no big surprise to me that the poor kid froze:)

Bike
Mr. speed demon on the bike

Run
(yes that is my hubs talking to me on the phone and pushing our 2 girls and cheering kolbs on...its a family affair)

My nieces also competed and were amazing!!!
Its really gotta be in the Lawton genes:)
Kolbs, I'm so proud of you for trying a tri:) !!!

Sweet {Home} Alabama

I grew up with only one sister (whom I completely adore).
Then I married into the Lawton fam and acquired 6 more and shortly after my brother got married, to make my total 8 sisters! You really can never have enough:)

Thanks to my super awesome MIL, the Lawton girlies took a little sister's trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend.
(Jenn, you were much missed!)

Favorite Memories:
adventures 1, 2, and 3,...playing Quelf until i couldn't laugh anymore, eating so much I couldn't eat anymore, getting "shredded" with Jillian Michaels and the dishwasher repairman, Jeanine's "happy" shorts, and screaming my head off while paddling on my boogie board to escape the giant jelly-fish.

Adventure #1- windshield wiper flying off on the freeway. Good thing Rosie is an excellent climber:)

 The Happy Shack

 Lulu's
"Crazy Sista"

Adventure #2- all in the name of a great photo op, we may or may not have gotten the car stuck in the sand and had to push all 3,000lbs to the pavement...not to worry, the entire outdoor seating of Hooters from across the street laughed at us in true "great and spacious building" fashion:)

The Oyster House

Sunday we said goodbye to our view and our freedom and headed home.

and the boredom in the car led to...
adventure #3- testing out the Internet myth that ear buds up your nose will allow the sound to come out your mouth

Ahhh... sisters are always good for a laugh!

Team Lawton

Soccer season has begun...

#3 just wants to be like the older two, #2 loves pink, and #1 feels the need to particpate in every sport possible

I'm kinda in love with my kids:)

Who knew the title "soccer mom" would ever roll around my way?
I suppose the minivan was a precursor.
I love the life that I never knew I always wanted:)

Let the Games Begin

Is anyone else completely obsessed with the Olympics?!!

We are! My kids and I watch it every day together. Seriously best summer ever!

Our awesome friends through a kick off party for the Olympics a few weekends ago.
Each family had to dress in a color of the rings, create a team flag, and compete in various events.

There were: relay races, shot put (water balloons), equestrian races (daddy giving horsey rides), volleyball (beach towels and water balloons) and the crowd favorite...high jump (into a pool!)
I'm pretty sure I missed my calling in life. To think, I could've gone to the Olympics for my sweet high jumping skills! haha!
And I made some Gold (Oreo) medals for treats to finish the night.
